Zelenskyy Condemns Lack of Warning Before Russian Strikes on Kyiv

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that Kyiv received no advance notification from its international partners before Russia launched an attack targeting the capital’s energy infrastructure.

In a statement posted on X, Zelenskyy described the absence of an early warning as “absolutely unjust” and called on the international community, particularly the United States, to acknowledge responsibility for the continued fighting.

“This is absolutely unjust: when they are destroying our energy infrastructure, and Ukraine is not even receiving early warnings about ballistic missile launches,” he said.

” And it is important that the United States really sees what is happening and who is responsible for this war continuing.”

Zelenskyy reported that the Danista Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHPP-4) had been struck and that a residential building in Kyiv had sustained damage. Emergency personnel were working to bring a resulting fire under control.

According to the Ukrainian president, authorities detected the incoming missiles only when they were already approaching the capital. He accused Moscow of preparing to launch additional ballistic missiles.

“The facts show that the Russians do not consider themselves bound by what the president of the United States said. Ukraine supported an energy ceasefire. Russia is targeting yet another power plant and the lives of our people,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader's comments followed remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said Washington was continuing to provide intelligence to Kyiv while engaging with both Ukraine and Russia in efforts to end the conflict.

“We are helping them, and we are sharing intel,” Trump told reporters. “We want the war to end, so we’re working with them and Russia on getting the war to end.”

Reports citing people familiar with the matter told US representatives had discussed the possibility of suspending intelligence cooperation with Ukraine during talks on Friday if Kyiv failed to comply with Washington’s warning against attacks on Russian energy facilities.

On Sunday, Trump announced through his Truth Social account that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate halt to attacks against each other’s energy infrastructure.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine was willing to suspend strikes on Russian oil refineries provided that Moscow also stopped targeting Ukrainian energy facilities. He emphasized that any reduction in hostilities must involve both sides and include guarantees to ensure compliance.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said Moscow remained in contact with Washington over the proposed energy ceasefire in Ukraine that Trump had announced.
